Airport Guidance Systems – lights and systems intended for signaling and guiding the pilots during the approach and take-off procedures

In this airport lighting category we included:

• Wind direction indicator – it is a cone of fabric internally or externally illuminated capable to rotate under the wind so the pilots to understand the direction of the wind. Under wind force, the fabric can be more or less elevated so the pilots can understand how strong is the wind. This is one of the most important indicators on the runway.
• Runway guard lights – it is a system made of a pair of alternative flashing lights installed on the side of the taxiway just before the airplane is going to enter the runway. It is a strong light to make aware the pilot that is going to enter on the runway

• Precision Approach Path Indicator – PAPI system – made of four projectors indicating the pilot the approach angle
• Abbreviated Precision Approach Path Indicator – APAPI system – made of two projectors indicating the pilot the approach angle
• Runway Threshold Identification Light – RTIL – it is a system of two lights flashing simultaneously
• Runway and airport taxiway signs – internally illuminated signs indicating the Location or Direction, Runway vacated, Intersection takeoff, Runway designation, etc.
• Arresting gear marking – AGM – especially for military airports to indicate the arrestor gear
• Illuminated Runway Distance Remaining Markers – IRDM – for military airfields
